Humber Yawl Club Regatta
Five of the eight boat fleet took part in the HYC Regatta, May 2nd to May 5th. Numbers were depleted as 2 boats were in the process of changing owners at that time and 1 boat was still being renovated. Weather was warm and sunny with winds varying from F1 to F3, ESE to NE over the weekend.
Racing started on the Friday evening with the Obligatory “Round the Island” fun race. Rules are simple, through the club start line, take the island to starboard, back through the club finish line (collecting a can of beer from the committee boat on the way through), finish when the beer is drunk at the Bar! Magic flute just winning by a head, a nice big frothy one!!!
Serious racing started on the Saturday with Magic flute taking the Honours, very closely followed by Rebel and Orang-utan in that order. Rebel has only joined our fleet this year and this was only her 2nd outing. Her owners are new to Squibbing and with Peter Wood calling trim and tactics had been 1st to the windward mark.
Sunday’s race was set to the same course as Saturday’s race; wind was a good Easterly force 3. Magic Flute found the best of the beat against the tide and opened a significant lead as the following boats covered, slowed and pushed each other with places changing on every tack or gybe. Again Magic Flute took line Honours followed by Orang-utan and Squadron in that order.
Mondays racing started with a beat against tide to the East. Wind was a cool F3 – F2. The first course had to be abandoned due to a missing club mark resulting with the restart as a much shortened course. Magic Flute was on a roll and was never challenged after the 1st windward mark, those following though changing places on virtually every tack and Gybe. Magic Flute eventually taking the line from Orang-utan and Privateer in that order.

3rd. Privateer (741)
