Part One
Have you heard the one about the Ten Squibs and the Virgin

… Islands? We have always known that a number of Squibs went to the Caribbean. We have never been sure exactly where or when - or indeed what happened to them. Now at last we have the full story.
It’s a story of intrigue and courage, of derring-do and sun burn, of Suffolk marshes and Nanny Cay, the breezes of the Dee Estuary and Hurricane Hugo. It is a story that features Oliver Lee and early Squibs, Oulton Broad, mangrove oysters, the Rileys and the Hortons. It includes Ben Bibby, the Menai Straits and the Royal Mersey, female coastguards and Sir Francis Drake. It is a story introducing a host of new characters including the wonderfully named Roosevelt Smith, El Richardson, the Barker twins, a German Squib enthusiast and the Princess Royal – but no pirates (unless you count the British Navy.)
So sit back and enjoy the tale. Like Caesar’s Gaul it is in three parts, two of which we publish here. The third will appear in the following edition of Squibble.
